Below are the requirements to become
an adult developmental home

What are the requirements?

It may feel like a daunting task, but we are here to help you every step of the way. Depending on your availability and motivation, the entire process can take 3-6 months to complete.

Below are the required trainings/certifications, state and personal requirements, and the required inspections to become a fully licensed adult developmental home.

Required Training & Certifications

Article 11

Adult Developmental Home Licensing Training refers to a specific training program or course designed to educate individuals on the requirements and regulations outlined in Article 11 of the Arizona Administrative Code, which pertains to the licensing and operation of Adult Developmental Homes (ADHs).

Article 9

This training focuses on educating individuals on the rights of individuals with disabilities. It emphasizes understanding and upholding the legal protections and provisions outlined in Article 9 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

Class 1 Fingerprint Clearance

A clearance card is provided by the AZ Department of Public Safety. This training involves undergoing a fingerprinting procedures and a thorough background check to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and legal requirements. Length of time to receive: 1-3 months

Attendant Care Training

Some clients may require assistance with tasks that they struggle to do independently. This training prepares you to assist your client with tasks such as personal care, bathing/showering, feeding, meal prep, etc.

CPR/First Aid

CPR/First Aid training teaches vital life-saving skills like CPR, choking response, and basic first aid techniques for emergency situations.

Billing Process

This training will provide you with knowledge of the billing process, schedule, and the required documents.

Specialized training (eg. seizure training, etc. )

Other trainings may include seizure training, habilitation & medication management. This is all dependent on the client that you will work with.

State & Personal Requirements

Provider must be 21 years or older

Legal AZ Resident & US Citizen

Mature & mentally stable

Economically Stable

Available space in the home

Reliable Transporation

It is a requirement by DDD and the Arizona Department of Health and Safety, that all houses be inspected at the beginning and periodically.

Vehicle Inspection

It is a requirement by DDD and the Arizona Department of Health and Safety that all vehicles be inspected for safety and compliance.
